Cape Surf Weather

With explanations, links...all that good stuff

Okay, folks, you wanted to know about what the weather was gonna do and how it would affect the waves. Well, yer ol' pal Uncle Doc has finally gotten it together and written the page. Impressed?

I didn't think so. If this is your first time here, neat. You'll want to read this bit on how to use the links and interpret the graphics and everything else below. If it's not, just go on to the weather graphics section. These are the links I have been using to figure out what's coming, all in one handy-dandy wad and I figured 'hey, why not put it up'...... so, I did.

Okay, the serious links and stuff

These are all updated stuff, straight from the weather servers, so you may want to hit refresh for the latest and greatest versions if you haven't been here for a while . You may not, who knows. We all have our quirks and oddities.

 what a neat little graphic...

a VERY neat new tool from NOAA suggested by Damian Preziosi. Try it and see what it can do

How about a weather map of the Atlantic? This one's nice, giving pressures, winds and all that stuff.

And a 24 hour model...and a 48 hour model...

Honey, I'm Home....Desi Arnaz, 1963
And then there's the tropical storms. Ah, the tropical storms...a very nice tracking map here, by the way. When there actually are storms they give a good idea of where they are gonna head.

Now, given a tropical storm...or depression.. .wouldn't it be a good idea to look at the Hurricane And Tropical Storm Forecasts (from the National Hurricane Center)??

Now, wouldn't it be nice to know what the wind is like? What the New England weather service has for a prediction as regards strength and direction?

Uh huh, I thought so.Well, I went and found it for ya.And here's one for tomorrow and one for the day after tomorrow
Remember; offshore winds are good, onshore winds are bad-

Another good tropical storm tracker from the University of Hawaii.

Northeast Tides

  • Tired of looking for your tide chart? Me too, which is why I downloaded WXTide 32 . Nice, provides tide and current predictions for about 9,000 stations around the world. Predictions for any date between 1970 and 2038. And it's free. Oh, you don't want to download it just yet? Okay, in that case, the tides for. Another good tide program is Tides I use both.
UNIX/Linux tide software at XTide.Try Tucows for others.

Why am I recommending to people that they don't use tide websites? Why tie up bandwidth, NOAA servers and so on, when you can get it faster off your own machine, get all the locations without tiresome menus and have it then, no problem. And for people with dialup connections, it only makes sense to have one medium sized download, once, than a whole bunch of small-to mediunm sized downloads all the time.

    More links

Now, if you run across any links and such that I haven't got here and you think I oughtta have, let me know. Likewise with broken links and so forth.
Expensive gifts such as large yachts, Ferraris and Lear Jets are always appreciated.
This, as Tolstoy said, will "never be finished, only abandoned". All suggestions, beyond 'get stuffed' and the like, are welcome..
